Deshengyuan Folk-custom Hotel is typical courtyard The axes of the courtyard are quite clear and the houses are of symmetrical structure. The first yard is frontage shops that total to five houses. The stele is of black background and golden words, and on the top are the words of “DE SHENG YUAN”. The left and right couplet is: “If you live in a lucky place, you will have a good luck. If you lodge in a propitious locality, you will own a fragrant virtue.” which has profound moral.
　　When entering the first yard, you will catch sight of a refined tassel storied building with two columniations. Under the brim are girders. On the top of the two columniations are flamboyant colored “picture of three fairies playing chess” and grape and rattan structured woodcarving combination with the words “good fortune and salary dedicated to longevity” in. The left and right couplet is: “The potpourri goes around the hall in the deep yard, the willow inosculates the golden corn in the ternary doors”. On the top of the brim there are lifelike sculptures of dragon and beast head. And at the door are a pair of fluent-lined small lions made of stone. The whole storied building presents a feeling of riches and honor and good fortune.
Walking along the steps and entering in the tassel storied building, you will see the run hall of the whole courtyard. The run hall is actually a two-storied building that has five houses and is of double sloping top and columniation structure. Passing through the run hall, the second yard is suddenly enlightened. A podium with the cote of “SHOU” on separates the second and the third yard so that people has the feeling of transition on an even keel. The principal part --- “Yu Hua Building” lies in the just opposite of the third yard.
“Yu Hua Building” is a colonnade structured two-storied building that has five houses. The housetop hangs being warped and the brim is quite long, which appears to be lightsome, tall and graceful. In front of the colonnade are porcelain sculpture of flowers and swallows and roll of cloud on the top of girder. The separate fans of the door and windows are woodcarvings. The sculptures between the colonnades are elaborate and vivid. In the middle hangs a stele and the couplet says: “Harmony makes fortune, auspiciousness causes abundance, loyalty gathers virtue and happiness brings peace” that shows the master of the courtyard has the financing notion of “Man of honor wants to be wealthy while he aims at it through the proper ways”. In the middle of the top of the building lies a geomantic omen building that embodies being lucky for ever.
　　The western and eastern wing-rooms of the whole courtyard are single sloping wood topped houses that have three houses. In the houses there are folk kangs made of soil. On the rafters and girders under the brims of all the houses there are colored paintings, including lifelike and interesting “picture of a hundred children”, “musical instrument, chess, painting and calligraphy” with green background and red margin, poetic and luxurious “picture of landscape” and so on. People acclaim all the paintings as the peak of perfection. Rich and colorful paper-cuts and appliqués on the windows, propitious couplets and favonian designs lend cozy sentiment to the courtyard. In both eastern and western sides in the courtyard there are staircases with woodcarving armrests and in the armrests are porcelain practicality paintings with clear veins and touching configurations, which infuse the feeling of warmth and particularity.
　　The construction of the whole courtyard is of height-crescent trend. Every yard is about 60 centimeters higher than the outer one, which means ascending step by step. Magnificent architecture, brick carving, woodcarving and stone carving show originality, which make the courtyard seem not only elegant and unique, but also abundant and of high practical value and artistic atmosphere.
Calligraphy and painting of men of mark with top artistic value greet you when you enter the house. A square-built rosewood bed of top grade, an old-timely fauteuil and a old-fashioned square table for eight people fill the whole house with homemade and comfortable ambience.
